BootZilla version 6 - Open Beta

Today I am releasing BootZilla version 6 Beta! Check out the description for instructions on how to use it. I’ve still got a lot of work to do, but it will soon be ready to go. Currently, I hope to finish before March of this year, possibly pushing for a Valentines Day release!

Note: You will need the Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 in order to build BootZilla.

Description:

First beta release of BootZilla 6. Extract to a directory, and run “BZUpdate” from the ketarin directory. Once Ketarin opens up, click the button labelled “Update All”. This will download, and extract all the tools that BootZilla contains into the appropriate directories.

Currently, there appears to be an issue with pre-existing directories, which results in newer binaries not being extracted to the pre-existing directory.

  1. when i open up bzupdate the command window tells me that bzupdate is not a known command file and when i open ketarin and hit the update all button nothing happens at all.

  2. You may have to right-click and run BZUpdate as Administrator. Ketarin should open itself up when BZUpdate executes, and have all the tools listed. If you still cannot get it to work, let me know.

  3. When I right click and run as Administrator I get this error in the prompt: UpdateBZDB.cmd is not recongnized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Also, I do see the UpdateBZDB.bat file in the directory and I see that your script calls to open it but even when I open the .bat it still does not show up in Ketarin.

    Any tips?

  4. Oh I see a possible issue, the WGET application is not included in this release but is referenced in UpdateBZDB.cmd

Edit: I added the WGET app and I still have no luck. So then I tried to use command line to WGET the contents of bootzill.org/db but got a 404 error.

  5. Yeah, don’t run UpdateBZDB. It’s not finished, and was included by accident with the beta.

I still have no idea why it’s not working for you. I’ve tried the beta on clean installs of XP/Vista/7, with no problems - perhaps you need the .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed, as Ketarin requires .NET 2.0 in order to run at all. (And I’ll add that tidbit to the post).

  6. Okay I have .NET 2.0 already. The problem is that your BZUpdate calls for UpdateBZDB here:

    :_goupdate
    call UpdateBZDB.cmd
echo Once BootZilla DB updater has completed -
    pause
    goto _dbtest

So it fails with that part.

  7. Ok, I’m not sure how you’re ending up there, but I fixed the server so it has a copy of the latest BZDB file, and UpdateBZDB will execute properly (If you have wget.exe). There’s a reason why wget wasn’t included in the beta zip file - I didn’t want to start distributing the db files until I was ready, but since you might not be the only person to hit this ‘error’, I’ll comply and keep that db file up to date from here on out.
